Its tough being a Cubs fan, the last cursed team in Major League Baseball.

It's lonley at the bottom.

| - California One It's been a while since I've updated this thing, but that's becuase I never update becuase I feel I need to, I only update when I think I have something to say.
If you've been in contact with me at all, you'll know that I've moved on from the days spent lounging around Northern Illinois aimlessly and have moved back to Santa Barbara and found a steady job. I am now a proud employee of We The People legal document services, typing up wills, divorces, and bankruptcies for all! You know us - you've seen our commercials. No lawyers, save money! Okay, you can stop laughing now, asshole.
All joking aside, I'm find myself liking my job, despite myself. I left college dreading the 8 hour day and dreading that terrible feeling you get when your alarm goes off when your body is not ready to reciprocate. I wouldn't say I look forward to waking up at 7am every day but lets just say that I don't hate it... which says a lot.
But the days whisk by quickly when you work, and pretty soon an 8 hour day turns into a week, and turns into a month. I can see how after 20 years of this, one plunges into a mid-life crisis, which is why I'm positive all this is temporary. Just something to pay the bills, and maybe pay for a trip abroad or two, until I figure out life... which is taking much longer than I thought.
Thats okay though. I have time.
| - My Kind of Town -
Lately, I've been wondering why I felt none of the same graduation anxiety I felt when I graduated from highschool. Maybe its because over these 4 years of college, I've experienced so much that there's little to feel anxious about. But then I think, jeez, I'm only 21 years old (soon to be 22), surely I'm not that jaded yet? If I am, it is probably simply niavete.
So, here I am, in Lake Villa, Illinois, up until the early hours of the morning and asleep until the early hours of the afternoon. I was initially worried that days of doldrum would wear down my will, my productivity, and my brain, but I'm finding that living a life worried about baseball statistics as opposed to deadlines is a life I could get used to, at least for the next month or so.
So I spend the days watching old movies, listening to sinatra, and firing up the old play station whenever i feel like it. Frank accompanies on late nights, in fact, he's singing Mack the Knife right now. I think, after I'm done here, I'll go watch Patton.
I'll have to say that I think my academic career was a success. I pulled through with a 3.72 GPA, a number which would've been higher had I not dicked around my first two quarters. Oh, and who designed this awful plus-minus system? if all my plus, minuses had been converted to pure letter grades, I would've come out with a 3.79 GPA, which may seem like squabbling, but I'll take everything I can get when it comes to applying for graduate school.
I spent the last week showing clare around Chicago, and in doing so have garnered a new appreciation of this city. Chicago is loud, bustling, blunt, but not too crowded, not pretnetious, and very accomodating. It has the big city bustle of New York without the pretentiousness, the laid back attitude of Los Angeles with character. As Frank says, it's my kind of town, Chicago.
I'm thinking of applying to grad school at U of Chicago or Northwestern now. If anything, I'll be able to see my beloved cubbies play. All they need to do is get their pitching back in order, and they're going to make a run at the wild card, I swear it.
It is truely a town that will never, ever, let you down. Unless, of course, you like baseball.
| Cubs WIN! They've won 8 out of their last 9!
It would seem rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. Here's hoping for 1 more tomorrow.

| - So I was talking to a friend yesterday, who, like any other decent guy, has some women problems. When I say he has women problems, I mean the woman IS the problem, as always. Anyways, we were going on about how girls are kinda psycho sometimes when I brought up the age old question - why do girls date douchebags? I mean, other than your rare exception, most girls seem to be attracted to arrogant douchebags who treat them like shit, then they complain about it.
For a guy, the obvious solution is simple - don't date a douchebag. But that's a guy thinking, and generally our brains operate with logic, something that most women, not all, but most, don't possess. I mean, okay, so some nice guys aren't attractive/are boring/have small penises, whatever. That can't be nearly as bad as the emotional abuse they suffer at these asshole jerks right? Right?
Well, like any curious persion who's currently procrastinating on his massive term paper, I turned to the prestigeous internet to answer my question. Going to askjeeves.com I typed in "Why do girls date assholes?"
The first link to appear featured a self-described nice guy who interviewd 87 different girls on why they date assholes. Out of all the girls, only two of them said she prefered decent guys (big surprise) and the rest of them provided their own explanation why douchebags are preferable to decent men. Here are some exerpts I found particularly entertaining.
(Disclaimer - I know I'm a nice guy who's in a long term relationship with a girl right now. I consider myself lucky. My girlfriend actually likes it that I treat her with respect. Stunning, ain't it?)
34. I think girls date assholes because we're always looking for things to bitch about. if we dated a nice guy, then things would get boring. -or- girls date the assholes because they think they can change the guy for the better and he'll love her for it. it's rather humorous, He'll only end up resenting her anyway..giving us something to bitch about later -Theresa
- well this it the typical response: they think they can change assholes. But why would they want to? Why bother changing an asshole to a decent guy when you can just go for the decent guy? Whoops, that's the logic talking again.
45. For some reason girls date assholes because it is more exciting being treated like crap. I always date assholes. I keep trying to figure it out, maybe it's because I always go for the drop dead gorgeous ones and they are assholes because they get all the girls, they are hot and they know it. It's fun to do things to try and keep a guy that gets a lot of girls interested.I like catching the guys that everybody wants. I like a challenge. -Jessica
- Yeah. It's a real challenge to go out there, sieze the day, go out and be treated like a piece of dirt. Right. *cuckoo*
47. Cause its awesome when we're the one thing an asshole will treat nicely. It's like a conquest. -Joanne
- But that's the thing, they don't treat you nicely. Maybe breifly in order to get in the sack, but that's it. I still no comprendo.
51. Because they lie. You don't realize they're assholes. -Victoria
- okay, fair enough, ever heard of if at first you don't succeed, try try again? Dump the asshole and try again, the law of averages will eventually put you up with a nice guy. But that doesn't seem to be the mode of operation for most chicks.
54. Cause they're hottt (with 3 t's). They drive really loud cars and we find that attractive. -Kelly
- This chick deserves the award for dumb bitch of the year. First, hot is still spelled with 1 t, having three does not make a person hotter, it makes them an idiot. Second, loud cars do not correlate with assholeness, unless this world is really that fucking retarded.
57. To make the nice guys jealous. -Jenny
- Okay, I stand corrected. THIS chick wins award for dumb bitch of the year.
58. Assholes are more fun. Nice guys are boring. They [Nice guys] don't take charge and are timid. Girls don't really want to be told what to do but they like decisiveness. -Stacey
- Okay, I can almost buy this argument. But it assumes that a decent but bold and decicive man does not exist in this world, and let me tell you that that's not true. I think that often people mistakenly associate nice with dorky, when the two don't necessarily correlate.
61. You don't really want a super nice guy because then you might think they are gay and you don't want to date a gay guy do you? -Kelly
- Yes, a guy who wants to stick his dick in you, but simultaneously wants to NOT treat you like roadkill is obviously gay or wanna be gay. This is giving me a headache.
66. The best ones are always gay. -Bridget
- As my gay friend can attest, gay men are not the fucking holy grail of men. They have their drama too, and yes, some, maybe a lot of gay men are douchebags too.
68. For a huge cock. -Gingi Leigh
- Sometimes you get what you deserve. A big, fat, dick.
Here are the two chicks who said they prefer nice guys:
71. I like the nice guys. No matter how hot you are if you're an asshole it means nothing. -Haley
32. I, personally, have never really been attracted to assholes. I, unlike most girls, am attracted to decent guys. However, I think that girls may date assholes because they give girls something to work for. Girls like a challenge and get kind of sick when guys are overly nice..that's just not masculine, you know? -Lauren
- So it's masculine to be a jerk? Nobody sent me a memo.
This is the explanation I liked the most
25. Because we're stupid bitches. -Kristina
- Her words, not mine. | | |
